Chester
11.5 yrs passed away May 18, 2010
When we saw Chester's smiling face on the Lab
Rescue website in March 2009, 10.5 years old at the
time and surrendered through no fault of his own, we
knew he belonged in our family.  It had been nearly
seven months since we had lost our lab Jesse to
lymphoma and felt that it was a great fit to take in an
older dog rather than bring a puppy into an already
busy household with two young children.  We went
into the adoption with eyes wide open, all four of us
realizing that we may only have a few months with him
or if really lucky, three or four years.  The goal was to
give an old, unwanted dog who still had a sparkle in
his eye a loving home to live out his final years.  On
May 18, 2010, our handsome, funny, loving, gentle
yellow prince and best friend passed away quite
suddenly, the result of a suspected anaphylactic
reaction.

We had 14 wonderful months with our Chester and
are finding peace knowing we achieved that original
goal of giving him a great home and loving him
dearly.  Chester was a perpetual optimist; nothing
could bring him down.  He also had a mischievous
streak, stealing socks and the children's toys to
burying in the garden!  Chester was somewhat
lacking in his understanding (or perhaps selective
hearing) of basic commands like sit, stay, heal and
come, but he certainly had a solid grasp of kisses, car
ride, walk, biscuit, ball and swim!  Who were we to
argue about priorities with an old boy? Instead we
learned that sometimes we need to relax a little and
enjoy the finer things in life like a swim, leisurely walk
and a game of fetch!

Who knows what Chester's fate would have been
back in the Winter of 2009 without the existence of
the Lab Rescue.  It is because of the tireless passion
and efforts of this special charity that we were
connected with a really great dog who will leave a paw
print on our hearts forever.  We will miss our beloved
boy always;  his sense of humour, his affection, his
gentle demeanour, his playfulness, but most of all,
that reliable companionship all labs are famous for.

SALLY
16 yrs, female, yellow UPDATE
There is a new star in the
heavens......
On Saturday Jan 2nd our dear sweet Sally
passed away comfortably in her home
surrounded by tears and love. In the year that
she has been in our care we have all learned
something from this adorable, sweet ,spunky girl
about unconditional love and zest for life. Sally
was lucky to have such a wonderful, caring
foster Mom as Joanne who loved and cherished
this dear girl every moment in her care. Right up
until the end Sally was up the stairs for bedtime
and enjoyed the company of Duncan another
Lab Rescue dog and her dear Golden Retriever
friend. Dear Sally will be missed and has left her
pawprints on all our hearts.

Ceazar
He was 6 1/2 when he came into our lives on the 28th
of January, 2006 and 10 1/2 when we lost him on the
28th of February, 2010.  In those 4 short years our
lives were changed forever and now he will be forever
missed.  Handsome and gentle, loving and loyal -
Ceazar was the most amazing dog we have ever
known.  People often said he was lucky to have found
us - when really it was us who were the lucky ones.
Forever loved and in our hearts.  Marti & family 2010
LADY-ROSE
9 yrs, Chocolate, Female

Nov 04/09: Our rescue opened its heart for Lady-Rose in July
09. She came to us with open sores on her feet and some
walnut-sized lumps in her ears. After addressing these issues
we were severely disappointed to find out that Lady-Rose has
cancer.

There is a new star in heaven. On Feb 2, 2010 with
her adoring foster family present Lady Rose passed
on peacefully.  Lady Rose was the sweetest girl who
we were proud as a rescue to be able to save and
give her at least 6 months of a life she so truly
deserved.
She will be missed dearly by her foster parents,
Richard & Penny and furry sibling, Sunny.
