Hi friends I would tell you my name but it turns out I have become a social media superstar so most of you know me as BRILLIANT BAXTER! and boy have I been on an ADVENTURE! I guess I should start from the very beginning so you can feel like you were on my journey too.

It all started when I was surrendered to a shelter with my 14 yr old lab brother. My owner became ill and I before I knew it we were alone. My back story is unknown so it makes it difficult to understand fully the kind of life I've lived for the past five years. During my short stay in the shelter my brother passed away which took away the only comfort I had left.

That's when the Lab Rescue team stepped in. Apparently, they are quite the suckers for sappy stories.

I went into a loving foster home but with my world turned upside down I was on edge. I didn't eat right away, and although I am extremely friendly I was very shy being in a new place, and new smells without the comfort of my brother...and then the day came when my foster opened the front door and I BOLTED....and that was the start of my adventure.

For 13 days I was on the run which to the Lab Rescue team felt like FOREVER! I was out in all kinds of conditions.... -15 degree temperatures, rain, and snow. The team spent many sleepless nights sleeping in parking lots, setting traps, and posting flyers in hopes of a sighting but I am just too smart for my own good. By the end of the first week I was a social media sensation and tons of wonderful volunteers came out to help. It is because of the community coming together that I am safe and resting in a warm bed and getting the medical attention I need. I lost some weight on my journey so I am getting my strength back day by day.

Here is what the team wants you to know me about me...

I am loving, friendly, and very sweet. I am a bit shy and timid so I would do best in a quieter home. It takes me a few minutes to warm up to new people but once I do you are in for kisses and nudges for belly rubs.

I would prefer a large backyard to run and play in with a secure, tall fence.

I am a little extra nervous around men and tend to gravitate towards women but I think with time, reassurance, lots of love and snuggles I will learn that its okay to not feel the need to run.

I need to be on a leash at all times. If you are looking for an off leash lab I am not your boy.

I have previously lived with another lab so I think I would be okay with a good natured, calm, more submissive type of canine friend.

I have been on quite the journey and want to thank everyone for everything they have done for me. Please stay tuned as I become more comfortable and the team learns more about me.

Love, Baxter
