Mabel here!  Now, I don't know how many birthdays I've had but we think I'm around 9 years old.  I certainly don't act like the 12 year old everyone thought I was at first.  I meet everyday with enthusiasm and curiosity. I don't have mobility issues and I think you'll find I have a good amount of energy consistent with a young senior Lab...So let's address the elephant in the room, I don't think I'm completely 100% Lab since my hair is a bit longer but I'm told my perfect family won't mind.

My house skills are superb and my basic commands are solid, like really solid!  I'll hold a sit or a down until you give me the release word (and a treat, of course).  Like many people, I don't care for a bossy-pants kind of parent but I'm very obedient and respond well to positive reinforcement and a kind voice. A little respect and understanding goes a long way in my books.  I'm affectionate and love a massage but I'm fairly independent in the house and not into a lot of hugs.  I like to lay near you most of the time and even though I have comfy dog beds, I prefer to solitude of the front hall to sleep.

I'm so lucky to have a foster Mum who's home often to cater to my desires. I enjoy a walk to start my day where I catch up on all the gossip left on the polls and hydrants.  Then I like to tire my foster Mum out with games like Tug-of-War and Zoom Zoom in the backyard or playing with my toys in the house.  This eventually leads to an early afternoon nap. My second walk of the day is my favorite!  We take a car ride (which I'm great at BTW) to go for a walk on a nature trail for around 45 minutes.  AND I GET TO SWIM which I absolutely LOVE!! All that rounds out about an hour and then later in the day I'm happy to go for another shorter walk or play of some sort.  Finally, I like to seal the day with a peanut butter Kong and alone time while I settle in for the night.

I think I'm a country girl who didn't go for walks on leash until I came to Lab Rescue. I'll admit my leash skills are quite rusty and I like to sniff a lot. I need a strong parent at the end of my leash who will help me learn not to pull.  I've met lots of friendly people on my walks and greet them all with a polite wagging tail, though I admit, I'm a sucker for the females.  I'm polite meeting other dogs on my walks and after a good sniff, I'm cool to just hang out rather than play wrestle.

I might be okay to share my space with another dog but it would depend on the dog, really.  I would do well a submissive personality and similar energy level but a dog that isn't very needy or in my face all the time.  I enjoy their company on walks or a chat at the fence, so it all depends on the dog. I get along fine with cats in the house, I wouldn't say we're bffs but I respect their space and they mine.  I'm more of a people-dog mainly looking for a family with lots of time for exercise and hanging out.

I would like an experienced, adult family who enjoys the outdoors as much as me.  I'm okay alone with full access to the house but I would appreciate having my people around often.  I'd love a home with a big yard, trail walks and a spot to swim.  Well, I'm off to play Tug!

Love Mabel
