My name is STRIDER and I am a super sweet senior boy! I am 11 yrs old which means I have seen a lot, learned a lot and I sure have loved a lot. You may wonder why a fella like me is coming to Lab Rescue at such an age...well my original owner passed away so I was taken by family members who are now moving and going back to school which leaves no time for me.
Medically, I am in pretty good shape. I recently had 3 teeth removed as well as a small growth above my eye removed. I am already feeling so much better.
I love people and am friendly with everyone I meet. I don't need any time to warm up to new people, I am instantly your best friend. Same goes with dogs too! I get excited to meet new friends and enjoy their company. I have been around cats and will definitely chase them.
I have full access in the house and am well mannered. I really enjoy being with my humans as that is what I am used to so I would love a family where the humans are home often. ido have a bit of separation anxiety so that is why I would like someone who is home often so I don't get scared. My favourite place is to curl up on the couch or bed and watch a movie.
Wanna know what I really enjoy? CAR RIDES! I will jump right in and sit my head out the window to let my ears flop around in the wind.
I am not the biggest fan of the water but I do really enjoy toys and fetch!
Overall, I am a lovable, sweet companion looking for somewhere to lay my head and live out my senior years being loved and spoiled.
Strider is a wonderful boy. He has great house manners and he quickly learned which pieces of furniture he is allowed on. We have found that with consistency and patience we have been able to make small changes in his behaviour. For example, he used to bark with excitement while getting ready for a walk but now he waits quietly.
Strider enjoys his several walks a day and continues to improve on leash. He wears an easy walk harness which stops him from pulling. During the recent snow fall, his paws would occasionally bother him. Lab Rescue provided booties for him and he has adapted to them very quickly and it really seems to make a difference on days with heavy or wet snow.
When at home, he likes to lie nearby us and sometimes makes appreciative grumbling sounds when he is being pet.
To help alleviate his mild separation anxiety, we will shut several bedroom doors before we leave him alone at home, so that he feels that someone is there. That seems to make him feel better and he usually lays down outside one of them until we return.
