Hi, I’m Samson,

I’m a 7-year-old Golden Retriever with a gentle heart and so much love to give.  I absolutely love pets and cuddles, and I’m known to lean right into you or gently nudge you with my head or paw to ask for just a little more love. Being close to my people is one of my favourite things. I’m a big sweetheart with a calmest, kind temperament.

Inside the house, I’m a very well-mannered gentleman. I like having my favourite spot where I can rest and relax while staying close to my people. I sleep soundly through the night on my comfy dog beds and am overall a very easy, gentle companion to have by your side.

I’m wonderful with visitors too. People greet me with a kind soft voice and I’m happy to sit for pets and enjoy the attention. I’ve even done great meeting some older kids too!

One thing I do require in my forever home… the cheese tax! I will happily take the special treat, it’s another way to make me smile.

Life up until now has been rough with an old injury that didn’t heal well but my heart and personality are still as golden as my fur. I have some aches and pains in my arthritic joints, and the wonderful folks at Lab Rescue made sure I had a thorough check-up and X-rays so we know exactly how to keep me comfortable. My path forward includes medication and supplements to help me feel my best, and I’ve been such a brave boy through it all.

Keeping active at my pace is important for my body. I enjoy short casual walks to keep my body moving, and my confidence is growing every day. I walk with a limp but once I get going, I’m happy to keep walking, especially if it’s somewhere interesting. I just need reminders not to over do it too much so frequent short walks are ideal. I get excited when I see my leash because it means time to head outside and enjoy the fresh air. I’d love a family who will help me with those little outdoor adventures and continue cheering me on as my confidence grows.  I haven’t tried swimming yet but I hear it can be a wonderful way to exercise for dogs like me.

One of my favourite things is simply being outside. I love stretching out in the green grass, soaking up the sunshine, and listening to the birds and neighbourhood sounds. I’ve even spotted a few bunnies while sunbathing, but I’m perfectly happy just watching them peacefully from my cozy spot.

I’m looking for my forever people that I can share my golden heart with.  They will under my senior needs and be willing to go at my pace to help me enjoy all the things in life I have been missing like new adventures and cozy nights together. I’ve got a strong and happy spirit that continues to shine bright now so just need a family with a passion for a true rescue.
